Feeling Better

WooooHooo! I must say I am feeling so much better!!! Thank you JESUS!!!! I also wanted to share my little revelation I had during my sickness. Have you ever eat until you felt sick? Or stuffed yourself so much that you just wanted to lie down? Well I have more times than not. The Monday before I was sick with the stomach virus, I ate everything and anything. It was one of those days I felt like eating everything in the house and I did. No......I'm not proud of it, but I did it :( So anyway, Tuesday morning when I got up sick and started throwing up.......stuff just kept coming up and coming up. I could literally feel it from the very bottom of my stomach. (I hope this doesn't make you sick) As I threw up I realized how unhealthy it was for my poor stomach to be putting so much junk into it. So I started some research and learnt some new facts about over~eating and digestion. I want to share these with you.

Normal digestion usually takes from 24 - 27 hrs.

2. When you overeat, you will feel lethargic. Your body’s energy will be used to digest and assimilate foods, leaving less energy for mental ability and physical tasks.

3. If your body is constantly processing food, there is less attention focused on body cleansing and rebuilding. The same goes if you eat late at night before bed. Instead of nightly cleansing, your body will still be digesting and assimilating food. Instead of waking feeling refreshed, you’ll feel like you were hit by a truck.

4. Toxins can be re-absorbed into the body when they sit in the digestive tract for a long period of time.

After reading these facts I thought, "No wonder I'm always so tired when I first get up in the morning and have NO energy!" My greatest downfall in eating is my serving sizes. Although it states, 14 chips is the recommended serving size, I eat half the bag. Self control has never been a strong suit of mine. This year I am woking on these two "MAJOR" problems. I have many of course, but these are my hardest. Yesterday ALDI's had kitchen food scales on sale and I went and bought one. Let me tell you, this baby is my new BFF!!!!! :)

I love the scales! I can measure anything up to 11 lbs. The food scale has already helped my diet by helping me cook just enough instead of too much. Usually when I cook I just throw stuff together and never measure food. I end up with leftovers that I usually eat on while I clean up the kitchen. I used my scales last night to make Chris and I steak salad for supper and it worked perfect!

I fixed exactly 3oz of meat for each of us. There was no leftovers and no over~eating. We had just enough to fill our bellies, but not stuff us. I recommend anyone having portion control and serving size issues to get one. They have really helped me!

Here's my recipe for one salad:

2 cups fresh baby spinach
1/2 cup fresh sliced mushrooms
1/2 a medium size vine ripe tomoato
3 oz. Tyson pre cooked streak strips
1 tablespoon Hendrickson's sweet vinegar and olive oil dressing
2 teaspoon grated parmesian cheese

Try it sometime. This is very filling and at only 225 calories, you can't go wrong.

Hopefully everyone is having a great New Year in the our Lord!

God Bless and Happy Healthy Eating,
Lacey McKinney
